My Workout Confessions, Part II

by Daniel Chiam

Do you know that before I started to workout I have a body of a 44 year old person? I just turned 26 this August and to think that I am actually older than I really am, it's really a punch in the face by reality.

I accept the fact that I am fat ever since I can remember myself being fat. Even when I lose a lot of weight during college year, I really didn't realize it because at the back of my head, I have fully accepted the fact that I am fat and there is nothing I can do about it. I gain back a lot of weight after since.

I'm used to all the name calling ever since high school.  Kids are the worse, I hate being around kids because they are just so honest and innocent and they will just say as it is what they see. It's really does cost me my self-esteem. No, life wasn't easy back then for me.

I'm ashamed of myself, ashamed of my body. I never wanted to take my clothes of for everyone to see. Especially when going for a swim. It's like carrying your most shameful secret around with you, and everyone is taunting you to expose it to the world. No, life wasn't easy back then for me.

I teared when I watched the Biggest Loser series. Does anyone really understand why? The shame we go through. The disappointment that we have to face just because of our weight. We learn to give up easily almost for everything in our life. We lived to survive each day and hopefully things will changed for the better. Life was never easy.

I'm telling you all this so that you understand that I'm going through the same thing as you do. We have a spirit that's easily break and we learned to give up without a fight, because we were made to believe that we can't change anything, we were force to believe that nothing good can come out from us.

It's time to prove everyone wrong and to prove to yourself that you can be better than what you are, that you have a fighting spirit that's even greater than anyone else. Don't wait for another tomorrow. Changes starts today!

My Workout Confessions, Part I

by Daniel Chiam

After reading the post by Cherrie about losing weight, it reminds me of the day one when I really determinate that this time, I'm really going to lose weight and live the best time of my life no matter what. Ever since then I still haven't stop pursuing that goal till today.

Let me be pure honest here, IT'S NOT EASY!

Do you really think that the first thing that I wake up to is to think about what exercise that I'm going to do today, how much calories that I want to burn or which muscles should I shape up for my body? NO!

After 6 month (I actually started working out since April), going to the gym is still a struggle for me. Starting that warm up is still a hesitation for me. Sometimes I even reluctantly lift that dumbbell just for the sake of making myself feel better for that one second. Nothing is easy.

You can't eat as freely as other people. Cut down this and that. Do you really think that I enjoy that? Friends asking you out for a meal... supper and you have to say no to them. While everyone is eating and you are just sitting there with your drink and looking at them eating their foods. You think that was fun?

Everyone else is going somewhere to have fun and you are there with your pool of sweat, still kicking, jumping and pushing with all your might trying to break your personal best. The pain on every muscles that you have when you wake up every morning. Do you really think I'm having fun with pains?

It was never easy for me and its still hasn't changes, but I learn to live with it because I have a purpose to fulfill. I cannot just sit there and waiting for changes to take place by itself. Changes starts with you and it starts today. Don't give excuses that its hard, that its not your style or la di da... I want it badly and I make it happened.

I challenge you today. If you have been thinking about it for so long now. I challenge you today to get up and start doing something. This is your life and make the best out of it!

Early Workout.

Olla people! Home sweet home. In less than 12 hours, I'll be attending my brother's convocation and yes it's at UMS. Wooohoooo! I am super happy for him :D

I have no idea what a jet lag is and I think I just had one. I can't sleep, so I decided to go for a workout at 6 in the morning! The last time I woke up so early for anything, I think it was in the last millennium for a reason I can't remember, haha.

Anyway, when I was studying on Mel's workout, I actually found something interesting by Nike - Nike Training Club. They have a variety of workout video on Youtube and I find it really helpful. Not only you get to learn different type of workout, but you also get to learn all the proper name for all the workouts. Haha, perhaps I can go pro one day.

Oh well, I've prepared a few post for next week. More like I'm yanking about workout stuff. I really wanted to enjoy all out with my time in Sabah, and I strongly feel that I shouldn't hangout too much in social medias. That's why you'll seldom see me leaving a comment in your blog. Will do so when I'm back in KL next month :D

Sabahan bloggers, I will contact you all through Facebook. Lets meet up next Saturday~!

Will keep you all posted :D

Until next time, see you around my friend =)

I'm Coming Home

In less than 12 hours, I will be boarding the plane going to Sabah - The Land Below The Wind. Not a word in the dictionary can describe all my emotions with one word. I just can't wait to be there.

The main reason I'm going back, is to attend my brother's convocation. Congratulation brother!

Other than that, I really need a break from the fast flowing life of the city. I have been whining a lot lately like an old women who live with her many cats. It's time to chill and do a self check. Not to mention that 2012 is nearing, and it's time to plan for next year goals and visions.

I really wish I can stay longer in Sabah. I hope I can find a time to meet some of my Sabahan blogger too :D

I will still do my workout there (hopefully)! Next year goal for health is going to be tough to achieve. Like 6 pack tough, haha. Well, there's no harm in trying :D

Enjoy your weekend people! =)

Communications before Feelings

by Daniel Chiam

In my first part of the series - Friends First and Not Target, we end the subject with go and make friends first. Now guys, it is important for you to understand that our goal here (or at least my goal) is for a long term relationship. The one that can end in marriage, kids, grandchildren and till death do us apart.

The thing about wanting to have a good long term relationship, is that you must willing to invest in time, effort and patience. Good relationship doesn't happened overnight. You must build it up from ground zero.

Communications is the main material to build a good and strong foundation. At the friend stage, you are being given a comfort zone to initiate conversation whenever you want. Good evening, how was your day so far? Hey remember about the event that I told you about last time? Yada yada yada... you get the point.

Get comfortable as friend and get to know as much as possible about each other. Don't jump into conclusion too quick and start assuming things. Assumption always make things worse. Remember, building good relationship takes a lot of time. Learn to give chances to discover about each other; basically do some activities together.

Now the most common mistakes at the early stage of this level is when the feeling starts to intervene, and we start to entertain that feeling. We have the urge or a sudden confident that we are ready to take it to the next level. We starts to ignore the fact of how little we know about each other, how comfortable we are around each other and the compatibility of our purpose in life. That feeling is called - infatuation.

It happened sometimes and it's important that you understand what that feeling were, instead of beating down yourself so hard when you are being rejected. Not everyone will fail, but whats the percentage of success when you try to rush things?

All I'm trying to say is, don't rush. Take your time and build that bridges among friends. Communicate with them and see if you can get along in every situation. As friend you get to learn how to deal with each other, witness the good and the bad about each other and most importantly it helps you to discover is she's the right one for you. Once you get to know your circle of friends, then only you start highlighting your potential target.

If you have a problem talking to a girl, then I suggest you learn how - NOW.

Masako Mizutani - Girls Idol

by Daniel Chiam

Ain't she adorable? Awww just when I thought it's just another kawaii Japanese teen model, I was dead wrong to assume so! I never heard of the name until I read the news. Yes people, this kawaii girl was born in 1968

She is 43 this year, a mother of 2 kids and her eldest daughter is 20 years old this year! Hot mama!

If you think plastic surgery and botox has anything to contribute to that pretty face, then you are dead wrong too! Its all au naturel people! Ladies should really learn from her you know, rather than opt for plastic surgery and botox.

To be honest, a wife with a pretty face at that age is just a bonus for a guy. It's not a compulsory thing. I much prefer my wife to have a healthy body, so that we both can go on a lil' bit longer in life together.

Undeniably she's really pretty ^^ Kawaii desu ne!

Week 7 - RPM Challenge

No idea what is RPM Challenge? READ HERE. Basically it was one of my favorite class back in gym days. It's the most hardest workout when you really go all out. The music is inspiring tho, and it helps a lot to push that extra miles.

So at time I also did my own version of RPM Challenge whether its on the mill or cycle. The most important thing is you got to have the right songs! Today, I'll be sharing some of my workout songs here, I hope you enjoy them. Warning: its all loud!

Oh ya! If you have suggestion of songs that you think is suitable for workout, do share it with me. Thanks!

Until next time, see you around my friend =)

Friends First and Not Target

by Daniel Chiam

Veni, Vidi, Vici - I came, I saw, I conquered. That my friend, is the typical men's way of getting a girlfriend. I do not like to generalize, so I'll say it applied to most of the men out there. Men are goal oriented. They see what they want, and do everything in their power to try and get what they want.

The problem always occurred after men gets what they wanted. She is now my girlfriend and what comes after that? Communications break down, getting distance with each other, that feeling that was once there is no longer there, yada yada yada... Men move on with a new goal in life :D

I might be wrong and I most probably be right for the most part. Your thoughts is very much appreciated.

It's not about right or wrong but it's just not what I preferred. I've learned from experience and from my environment, relationship just doesn't function that way. So right now, this is what I much preferred to do.

First, make friends. Do not approach or talk to a girl with the thought of 'she is going to be my girlfriend' or 'this is my target' in mind. Your initial thought should be 'I wish to be friend with her'. Remember this guys, your wife IS your best friend. If you both can't start right as a friend, don't think too far about starting an intimate relationship with her.

Since we are trying to make friends, don't limit yourself with only one friend. Get to know more people and be friends with them. There is nothing to lose here, its all a win-win situation, rather than you pick a target, failed and get rejected or you pick a target, success and still failed at the end. The odds for broken heart is rather higher.

I always believe that to start a relationship right, is to start a genuine friendship first. Not be friend because I-want-to-court-you kind of friendship, but a genuine friend friendship.

Okay, its going to be a long post. So I'm going to break it down in parts and post the other one on Monday, haha. Have a great weekend people! Go and make more friends!

Movie Review: Conan the Barbarian (2011)

Promising at the beginning 3/10

To be honest, it is quite disappointing. Just by itself the movie looks simple and rushed. Perhaps a lot of effort was put for the beginning of the movie and the rest of it was hurried in order to meet the date line.

If you compared to the 1982's Conan, it's true that people back in those days are more barbaric than the one we have now. I'm much prefer to watch the old one even when they don't have much technologal enhancement.
... I quite liked the film for what it supplied: as in action, sorcery and quite exciting visuals. It didn't appeal much to my intelligence, but the inner teenager in me was fairly content with what it offered. Just throw your expectations out the door, and you won't feel too let down once you delve into this world of barbary and poor dialogue. Mediocre, sure, but it could easily have been a lot worse.
-Mike S
Overall, it is still an entertaining gore movie with sorcerer and sword fight (tho not much of it is impressive). Rachel Nichols and Rose McGowan is hot :D

Until next time, see you around my friend =)

Trust the Unseen

As human, we depend too much on our own ability. We believe that we can handle everything that we are involved in life. We believe we have the solution and the way out for every problem that we are facing. Many times when things goes wrong, or life just doesn't go as we have planned, we blame ourselves first and worse we blame God for everything.

The truth is, recently I just spend RM299 to buy a gadget, and just few days ago I saw a different model only cost RM130+ for a secondhand one, and around RM50+ for an unknown brand but it serve a same purpose as the one that I just bought.

Usually I do not care so much when I already bought something, but this is totally different for me. Honestly, I'm not really doing good financially. I spend the money out of my impulsive emotion to own that gadget, when all along that small lil' voice in me told me that I should wait a lil' bit longer.

I didn't wait and I disobeyed.

This is just a small example in life when you do everything according to your own feeling and ability. Somehow along the way you will reached a limit where you just can't take it anymore or you just can't go on any longer.

Somehow turning to God for help, seems like a silly act. You can't see Someone that you believe can help you, and how is that possible? I never doubt the existence of God but I never really trust/rely on Him to provide the direction in my life. I was busy taking things into my own hands.

That is about to change.

Until next time, see you around my friend =)

Running Project 2012

I realized a lot of blogger that I'm following is actually a runner - a marathon runner to be exact. If you read My Workout Diary, you'll know that running is not really my thing. No, I do not despise it. It's just that I don't have the patience and endurance to end a running race.

I find it more to a mental challenge rather than a physical challenge. Sometimes it's very much obvious that my body still can go on, but inside my head I keep saying, this is bored, let's do other workout. My best record on the mill is only 4km.

Deep down of my inner heart, I always wanted to join a marathon run and finish it at least once. Previously I joined a 7km run by Sutera Habour, Sabah and I don't think I manage to run half way before I decided to quit and go back for the free 100 Plus refill. I think that was plus minus 7 years back.

Now that I'm in KL, I have all the events going on here yearly, and I shouldn't let it go to waste without giving it a try! Oh yeah, I'm aiming for that Adidas 10km run. No idea if they will still have it next year or not but for sure, one of my resolution for 2012 is to join a marathon run and finish it!

Eugene, Ying Ying and Massy, I think you all will be going for the Penang Bridge International Marathon 2011 right? If yes then all the best! Perhaps we might bump into each other next year in some marathon race, haha :D

PS: Anyone else here is a marathon runner?

Until next time, see you around my friend =)

Future Undecided

I was totally zombified in the office today. It's one of those day where pixels of life flashes in front of you. Everything that's happening around you doesn't seems to be clear of it's existence. My tired brains take me to a forbidden land again.

Mixtures of chemicals in the brains is telling me that I am living a hopeless life. Day by day, I just breathing aimlessly. How do you even do that? Breathing aimlessly. I don't know, but it does feels like that at the moment.

Please do excuse me for today. I don't usually get this kind of feeling. I'm just tired and sick (again). It's like my feeling is being chained to this weight and everything is being pull down to a dark bottomless pit.

Seeing better things happened to the people around me does brings me joy, and at the same time I question myself - When is my turn? I really hates it when that question pops out. It's not something I can give an actual answer. I can only tell myself to persevere and keep on waiting actively.

10 more days to go before I board the plane to Sabah. I really hope I would not be too occupied to have time for myself. I need to be in the zen mode, and trying to chill a bit. I have been running and chasing till I don't even remember what is it that I'm going after.

I hope you enjoyed your Monday better than I do =)

Week 6 - Track Records

Oh man, I'm still overwhelmed with the grand opening of Giggles board games cafe yesterday. So much fun and so many people that came for a visit :D Thank you all for coming!

Less than 2 weeks to go. Let's recap a bit of my performances.

I started out with 74.4kg back in early May. Then I was 70kg in mid June. After being stagnant and struggling for so long, today I weight 67kg. I can't believe that it took me almost 4 month to lose that 3kg, haha.

My target is 65kg by end of November (initially was in August) and that means 2 more kg to drop. Hopefully I'll be committed enough this time to really carry out all the workouts and diet. I am happy but it's not the right time to celebrate yet. I'm still not at the finish line yet =/

Comrades, fellow BodyRocker, I just wanted you to know that it was never easy from the beginning. It was never a lifestyle for me nor do I have the habit of working out everyday, but I push hard and I push through.

I have my moment too, where I just don't feel like doing anything. The pain and sweat is no fun if you really think about it, and to be honest, sometimes I do feel alone in doing all this. I'm not trying to justified myself, but that's the truth.

Weigh lost is an endless battle. I rather start right and continue on, rather than stop working out after my target achieved. Yes, I'm trying to make working out as a habit, and not just to hit a targeted number. Just keep on doing it, until you get there!

All the best people! =)

PS: This weekend I'm going to go for an outdoor workout. Been stuck in my room/gym for too long already. Need to have a fresh view for workout :D What's your workout this week?

Relationship is like a Bank Account

by Daniel Chiam

I still remember what Dr. Guy Peh talks about relationship - you need to treat it like a bank account! I hope you all know how does a bank account works, because it's how relationship works also.

Before you can open a bank account, you first need to deposit a minimal amount of money into it first. Then only you will be able to have a bank account that you can deposit more money into it, and start withdrawing money from it also. You can put in as much money as you want, but your maximum withdrawal is only as much as what you have in your bank account.

Same theory applied in relationship. Before you wanted to start a relationship with anyone, you must first put in a minimum deposit into that someone's life. Help them with their studies/works, phone calls, birthday wishes, gift and et cetera. The main reason for the deposit is for you to be apart of that someone's life.

Once your deposit is being accepted, then only the relationship will start to work both ways. You can't expect to make a withdrawal without first putting some money in your bank account right? Now I'm not just referring to a boy and girl relationship, but this is something that is practical for all sorts of relationship.

Among colleagues, friends, parents and children, future boyfriend or girlfriend, master and pet and et cetera. So if you always wonder why isn't your bank account work properly, perhaps you should first start to invest some money into it today!

Meeples - European Board Game Cafe @ SS15, Subang Jaya

I know I seldom travel, and I don't have a lot of places to introduce or to recommend in room8five, but this one, I just have to let you all know about it!

Meeples is the name of the shop. Different kind of fun is what they offer. Forget about the old snakes and ladders, monopoly and chess! They have hundreds (maybe even thousands) of board games for you to try out and to fall in love!

You will get to actually interact among players, tickle your brains a lil' bit and some games are just there for plain old fun and lots of laughter. There was never once I visited the place and it was as quiet as the library. People are just there to have pure funnest!

My verdict - Meeples is absolutely the best place to be if you are looking for a real good time with family and friends. Spend that quality time with them over a game, and see them talk and laugh. It's truly is a best place for bonding in today's city life.

The Settlers of Catan - My utmost favorite game!

What would Puss in Boots do?

Puss in Boots

You have known the name. You have heard countless stories. You have identify its trademark... but do you know how the legend begins? After watching the trailer, I am very much excited to go and watch the movie.

It has always been a mystery for me, how did the legend of Puss in boots begins and what is the major event that even allow Puss to become a legend. What would Puss in Boots do?

If I were Puss, perhaps my best weapon is my agility and my remarkable ability in sword fighting, but that will be too much of a hard work. I do what I do best. I make them defenseless with this:

Just when they are off guard, I will use my talented skill to slash and stabs, to bring the enemies down and to protect the innocent. Beware bad guys!

Kitty Softpaws, my helper is quick with her paws and swift ability to steal from others. I just hope that she won't steal away this heart of mine :D

The Most Limited Coupon

My friend showed me this special deal today in Groupon Malaysia, and this guy - Loke Hing Seong is really a genius! Who have ever thought about proposing through a coupon site?! Mei Chen, please just say 'Yes' to the guy.

I posted about Becoming Mr. Romantic back in early June, and ever since then I already decided that my proposal to my future wife-to-be will not just be an ordinary proposal - in a fine dinning restaurant, take out the ring from the pocket, on one bended knee and pop the magical question, will you marry me?

I really think I can do better than that, then again, don't keep the hopes too high. It's ain't cheap to get married these days. Especially in KL (depends on who is my wife-to-be). Well, if my guy boss is still here, I bet he will said "don't dream about getting married first, you better get yourself a girlfriend first".

Haha, I'm just happy seeing guys that's actually put in effort in their relationship. It really shows how much the girl means to them.

To all my male visitor who is currently in a relationship and planned to get married in the near future, my question to you is - What's your plan?

How Do You Wake Up Early?

This is the problem that I have been having for quite sometimes now. I couldn't make it a habit to wake up early anymore! The earliest I could wake up on a weekdays is 8am (minus snoozing the alarm), and 9am on weekend.

I wanted to make it a habit to wake up at 6 or 7 in the morning, so that I could go for a jog or do my workout in the morning, but until today, I have failed to do so. No matter how early I went to bed at night, the result is still the same.

I still remember when I first came to KL for study and in my first month, I always wake up as early as 6 or 7 in the morning. I will boil some hot water, make myself a cup of coffee, sit at the balcony of my apartment and enjoy the morning scenery.

Thanks to last minute burning midnight oil for assignments, DOTA and online games, 24 hours mamak and late night movie, I began to sleep very late (and sometimes sleepless), and starts waking up late too. Since then it became a habit and waking up early is always a struggle for me.

So how did you all do it? Waking up early. I desperately need to learn because I've always been late to the office, tho its just around 15-20 minutes walk from my house and my work start at 9am. Haha, I know right...

Do let me know your suggestions. You can help change my life today, haha =)

Welcome to Existence

Happy Monday people! I hope you enjoyed the long weekend better than I do =)

Sometimes I wonder, have I asked too much from my life? The long weekend hasn't really given me anything extraordinary, but a space enough to questions myself about the universe and my existence.

I was thinking about the decision that I had made to come back to KL, and leave behind my life in Sabah. I was spiritually dried back then, life became so stagnant for me and I felt a strong urge to come back to KL to be revive again.

Now that I'm here in KL, life wasn't all lollipops and cotton candy. I have more responsibilities and more things to take care of compared to back in Sabah - rental, bills, foods, time management and et cetera. In KL, I only have super less than what I have back home, and I get frustrated over it for many times now.

I can't go where I want to at anytime I wish, I don't have a good-to-go friends, I'm just a prisoner in my own incapability. I spend my long weekend like every ordinary weekend, and it's really pissed me off because I woke up in the morning hoping that it would somehow be different.

I guessed you just can't have everything in life to go according to your ways. I gave up a life in Sabah which I have a home to go back to, loving and caring parents to welcome me at home, an old car that can take me to anywhere I want at anytime I wish, friends that won't hesitate to hangout at anytime, natures, I can even have extra cash for savings...

In KL, I only have the house of God, more responsibilities and a job just barely enough to keep me survive each month. Haha, don't get me wrong. I'm not writing to complaint, but I just wanted to remind myself that there is always a price to pay for what I've wish for, and in all situations, I should learn to be thankful and learn to enjoy every moment of it.

Today, I've failed to learn to enjoy. Let's restart again tomorrow, shall we? =)

Until next time, see you around my friend!

Gorgeous Blonde - Amanda Seyfried

She does look a lot different in 'In Time', perhaps its the 7 inch (or taller) heels that she keep wearing and running around with, but obviously she's getting hotter by years. The short red hair does help brings out that emo side of her in the movie, haha.

Her most memorable costume in a movie for me is Red Riding Hood. The pale white skin, shimmering golden blonde hair, the red hood, white snow... Yeah the trailer is the main reason why I go for the movie, haha.

Anyway, I still prefer her in blonde, and she have such beautiful eyes. Gorgeous! :D
