Ming Ren Restaurant @ Highlands Hotel

by Daniel Chiam

Ming Ren is a gourment restaurant that specializes in authentic Xinjiang-style cuisine and Chinese fine dining. Xinjiang literally means "New Frontier" or "New Boundary", likewise, Ming Ren Restaurant is dedicated to opening up new frontiers in exquisite culinary experiences while pushing the boundaries of taste and luxury.

VIP room

I love the environment of the place. It's very cozy and chilled place to enjoy your meal. Notice there's two sets of chopsticks on the table for each person? One is solely for you to take the food off the table, and the other one is for you to eat your meal with - one doesn't goes in to your mouth and the other does.

Lamb Pie

We had the famous lamb pie as our starter of the day. It tasted amazing especially when your first bite reaches to the center of the pie. Juicy, tasty and oh-so-addictive. I can gobble up a few of these by myself. Thinking about it now made me drooling over the picture.

Catch the Lamb - Milky Lamb Soup with Onion & Vegetables

There are 3 ways for you to enjoy the soup. One, to eat it just as it is, and it tasted quite plain for me. Two, you can add in the Xinjiang powder which brings out a fragrant of herbal taste. Third, you can add in the chili powder to spice up the soup.

Stewed Xinjiang Lamb Leg

The stewed Xinjiang lamb leg is one of my personal favorite. Stewed for more than 2 hours, it was indeed a dish made for perfection of taste. The tenderness of the meat made it feels like it was dissolving once you put it in your mouth. Truly is a life changing experience for me!

Stir-Fried Scallops with Lily Bulbs, Sweet Corn

Golden Crispy Fried prawns Dressed with Fruits & Cooked with Wasabi

In all honesty, wasabi has never been my favorite before. I was quite reluctant to tried the dish with wasabi covered all over it but once I tried one of it, I was starting to want for more, haha. Tho it was covered with wasabi but it doesn't have that strong smell and taste of wasabi at all, and amazingly it really matches with the prawns very well.

Special Xinjiang Almond & Pistachio Ice Cream

Would you believe me if I told you that the ice cream is actually made from lamb meat? Yes people! Believe it cause it's real! According to the chef, they will blend the meat for hours until it became liquid, and only then turn it into ice cream.

It tasted awesome! You would not even realize that ice cream is actually made out of lamb meat cause you can't feel any meat in the ice cream nor does it smell like one. The taste of the ice cream itself is actually very light and thus you need to mixed it with the sauce for an extra flavoring.

It was indeed a mind blowing and life changing experience for me at Ming Ren Restaurant and would really love to invite you all to try some of the dish to know how truly awesome it is for yourself. You may find the restaurant at the 2nd floor of Highlands Hotel. For contact and reservations do call +603 6105 0879.
