To be honest, I was never really on board the Korean wave ever since it started to take the world by storm. I knew some of the K-pop girls group but that was mainly because they are all beautiful and they can really dance well. I only know them by their band name and never by individual. Also I don’t really watch K-drama and I only watched a selected few K-movie. Yes, next to nothing I am really clueless about the Korean entertainment industries.
Despite the hype about the Running Man series, I only started watching it few weeks back with episode 163. It was hilarious and it really got me to start watching the series from episode 1. I was really impress with the concept of the show of how they are promoting the interesting places in their country and at the same time, their game of hide and seek really caught my attention. Thinking that the whole show is sort of reality tv series, I sincerely like it because everything seems genuine. Most of the time watching it, I was really hoping to be one of the contestant cause the games they played are really interesting, exciting and fun, not to mentioned the places that they get to visit also.
If you are a religious follower of the show then you are no stranger to the Monday Couple; Song Jo-hyo and Kang Gary. I have to be honest; I was really drawn into the development of their relationship. They do make an adorable couple together. Unlike all the Korean idols and superstar, Gary really resembles a lot of the ordinary guys out there including myself. I guess that’s what got me really attached to the whole Monday Couple thing. Somehow it gives hope to guys like us that we can actually get the pretty girls out there.
Like I said, I am clueless when it comes to Korean entertainment. I got curious and wiki the whole Running Man cast and read about their background and stuff. I soon found out that Song Ji-hyo is actually dating the CEO of her agency and that the whole Monday Couple is just a show for everyone. I felt cheated in a way because I thought everything about the show is real. I always thought that variety show such as Running Man are more genuine about everyone’s characters but turns out certain course of the show are already plan beforehand and it was no different than watching a drama, that only the variety show has much unscripted freedom.
Though I know the Monday Couple relationship was purely for show but I don’t think I can really continue to watch them both act it out on screen any more. I guess I was innocently being too attached to Gary till I thought I myself was him. Though it might be impossible for them to be together in real life but had to see how they both be lovey dovey in Running Man, I don’t think I can live up with the lies any more. Haha, I am weak when it comes to this kind of thing.
No offence. Running Man is really a great show. It was just out of personal heartache that I decide to discontinue my Running Man marathon. I stopped watching in the episode where the SNSD girls are their guests for the couples’ episode. Ji-hyo wasn’t presence and I am at ease to see Gary happy that way. Well, I guess that's the end of my Korean addiction.
